Women attending a women-only bike mainenance workshop

On 9th April 2012, six young women from Tower Hamlets Cycling Club attended their first Women’s Bike Maintenance Workshop, held at the London Bike Kitchen in Hackney.

Jenni Gwiadowski, who set up London Bike Kitchen, along with Ellie the mechanic, ran a brilliant three hour workshop which taught the women new skills and built confidence in basic maintenance. All the women said they had learnt so much, and they want more!

The workshop was funded by Access Sport through the Active Women Project, which aims to encourage more young women to take part in sport.

Bike maintenance is an essential part of cycling, especially if we want to encourage women to purchase and maintain their own bike.
